Blue

Blue symbolizes calmness
Blue symbolizes loyalty
though I know Monday Blues
could get to you
but oh prithee just hear me.
Have you seen where the birds flew?
To the sky filled with blue
those birds soar free.
Have you seen how mad and calm
the ocean could be?
With King Neptune as the king
and his water feeders
flow free with the seven seas.
Your eyes may not be blue,
your heart may have tiny dots of green,
But hear me,
Your soul is crystal clear,
Your hands dance in a way
I could never understand
Your head may still be empty
But as a whole,you're blue
and I still love you like;
I love the colour blue

Workshop at Catholic High on 9th of July 2013

There's a saying that goes,' I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.' Today all the Gaveliers had done a fantastic job in this workshop that we had conducted at Catholic High and we had gain a new experience.I believe that all of us did enjoyed ourselves.
The purpose of this event is to encourage the students to speak out,to voice out their opinions. In other words, they are given a chance to speak and communicate with the students. The event start with a greeting from the emcee Gairus Gilbert and proceed to the manual speeches session which were carried out by Amir and Karen Kong. Amir was giving a speech named "The Body Languages" and Karen Kong was talking about 'Manglish'.
As for the next session,we divided the students into groups and each one of them were given a table topic question to answer. This is a great opportunity for those who are afraid to stand up and speak. What surprised me was that the Gaveliers had involved themselves in the activities and they succeed to light up the atmosphere which was pretty awkward and quiet at first.Besides, throughout the event,we can see great potential in each individual as they led their groups differently. I felt beyond happy to see that everyone had enjoyed themselves through this meaningful afternoon. Thank you for sacrificing your time and you guys had made this event a great success!
Last but not least,to the fellow gaveliers, please don't be afraid to make mistakes because humans make mistakes and that's how we grow,we have to learn from the mistakes that we've made. As you know that we have to learn from each other,we share our knowledge among each other. We are not human beings having a spiritual experience,we are spiritual beings having a humans experience. Guess what,I have received a message from a student from Catholic High said that she is going to join us in the next educational meeting. So keep it up people,we still have a lot to learn!

Another Fun Day of Learning

Educational Meeting

The Diamond Speakers Gavel Club again succeeded in hosting another educational meeting! Today was fun-filled with laughter and smiles as we gathered at 2-4 pm at the same venue, Bilik Kemanusiaan of SMK Kampung Nangka. The TOE was Kelvin Toh and despite his first time trying, he did a wonderful job. His effort was amazing and we are looking forward for more of Kelvin in our educational meetings.

The Manual Speech Session was highlighted by 3 speakers, Nizrul, Bira and Sophea. Nizrul presented the dos and don’ts in ‘Delivering a Speech’ and he did great on his CC Project 3. Undeniably, Nizrul had achieved his goals and inspired many with his powerful voice and rich vocabularies.

As for Bira, she shared with us the reasons on ‘Why Should We Love the Earth?” She conveyed a very good message as Mother Earth was dying and it is everyone’s responsibility to take care of it. For both Bira and Nizrul, they had improved so much in a very short amount of time. Next would be Sophea, a new member with a cute smile. Presenting her CC Project 1, we all get to know more about her. In fact, she did so well that it made us all wonder, “Was it really her first time speaking before an audience?”

The Table Topic Session was led by Amir and boy was it so fun! It was a great session and I couldn’t believe that the first timers could do a very great job. They were simply amazing and we are anticipating for more participation in the future. One of the most interesting one was Nizrul’s question. ‘How would you promote a perfume in the market?’ By promoting H20, he had convinced all of us to try his perfume. Well Nizrul, I would really call 19999 and order boxes of H20 if it could make me awesome.

Another example of the Table Topic question was Eddie’s on ‘Describing your crush’. Eddie gave a twist to the question and blurted out that he loves his mom. It was a very nice try and he got us all laughing as he continued to share the traits of his mother. Well Eddie, I love my mom too~

And the evaluation session was done splendidly. I was flabbergasted with everyone’s effort on making this educational meeting wonderful! Crystal was the General Evaluator and she rocked it! Stephen was the Grammarian and he made a great job despite being his first time of taking a roleplay. Anna was the Ah-counter and she had also done a terrific report. And it was her first time being a roleplayer! The timer was Ryan and his report was done amazingly. I just noticed that Ryan has been active in every educational meeting. Let’s all give an applause for him!

Today’s meeting was very fun! It’s a shame for those who missed it but worry not—for we will have our next educational meeting on 13th July 2013 (next Saturday), 2-4:15 pm at SMK Kampung Nangka. Be there~

Saturday – 22nd June 2013

First of all, let’s give our fellow Gaveliers and guests for today’s meeting a round of applause! Led by our TOE, Caroline, everything went well and we all had a lot of fun. We had some new faces today and it was refreshing seeing them having fun and trying out the table topics. Despite their first time presenting a speech before us, they totally had us blown away by their ideas.

As for the Manual Speeches Session, we bring the boys out~ Gairus, Koffler, Marcellinus and Ryan—all of them did an amazing job on their CC projects. The first speaker, our ever charming Gairus talked about ‘Senior Gilbert’, his respected father. It was a touching speech and he had us all captivated by his voice. I’d totally say that “Mr. Gilbert, you have raised such a wonderful son.”

Moving on to our sexy Koffler, everyone could really tell how confident and prepared he was. For his ice breaking, he told us about himself—how he had once got lost in the airport and the nice couple that helped him searched for his parent. Koffler, undeniably, was a very good example for those who haven’t done their CC1 yet.

Then we have Marcellinus! Also presenting his ice breaking project, everyone would totally agree that he had achieved his goals. Marcel is an only child and he was really lonely—but what are friends for, right? He shared with us about his best friend who has been his buddy through the rollercoaster rides in life. Worry not, dear Marcellinus, for you won’t ever be lonely anymore. Gaveliers are here for you!

And last but not least, Ryan with his soothing voice. Ryan was also doing his CC1 and he had done a great job on it. Ryan shared with us his passion—music. He made a few covers of hit songs before—how amazing is that? To be a pilot or a pharmacist—that was one of his worries. In my opinion, no matter what carrier Ryan chooses in the future, he would make a great pilot/pharmacist because he lives his life with passion!

As for the table topic session, our Table Topic Master, Nizrul deserved a round of applause for his effort. Credits go to all of the table topic speakers. It was a great session and again filled with laughter. Some questions asked were ‘Is mortality a blessing or a curse?’, ‘Video games—is it good or bad?’ and ‘Should teachers punish their students physically?’

Amir, the General Evaluator presented a wonderful report together with his fellow evaluators. The grammarian, Joan did excellent despite her first time talking up a role play. The word of the day is ‘jiggle’ and it was actively used. We jiggled our hands to shake off our sleepiness before resuming our meeting. Cynthia was the Ah-Counter and she delivered a well-prepared report as well. The timer for today’s meeting was Wei Lun and he carried out a great job too.

That’s all for today’s meeting. Unfortunately, there won’t be any educational meeting held on next week. It was canceled in conjunction with the Inter-school Impromptu Speech Competition. For further inquiry regarding the contest, you could check our blog or contact or the OC for the event, Biravina.

Until our next meeting, bye-bye!

Educational Meeting

Today’s meeting is another addition to our previous successful ones. The speeches were great, the table topics were awesome and our fellow Gaveliers had a lot of fun.

As for the manual speeches session, both our speakers, Amir and Caroline did an amazing job. With topics vastly different from one another, they both rocked the stage! Amir was the body language master as he talked about the 4 body languages in doing speeches—the eyes, the body, the feet and the voice. He got the audience to be involved in his speech and we were captivated by how great he has improved.

Caroline, on the other hand, picked a very rare topic. She started her speech with a question. “How many of you, approve of gay marriage?” That blew the audience’s minds—since it was totally unexpected. Her speech had opened our hearts and reminded us that, everyone deserves to love. If you happened to be gays or lesbians in the future, be brave and admit it. Tell your loved ones regarding what you feel about yourselves.

The table topic session was very refreshing today. Led by the Table Topic Master, Gairus, everyone was having so much fun!
Wei Lun was eating laksa and was suddenly confronted by a soaking wet Crystal… what happens next?
Gaveliers had to continue the story spontaneously and the chains of story were very interesting. Having 10 kids in 10 years, bearing a child that actually possesses super powers and reuniting after years of separating were fresh ideas given by the Gaveliers. Not only did we have a good time laughing but it stimulated our brain to work right on the spot. Finally, everyone had the opportunity to talk!

The evaluators should also be given credits for their superb works. The grammarian, Karen Kong did a wonderful job. The word of the day is ‘conceited’ and in every meeting of the Gavel Club, it is advised for students and guests to use the word of the day actively. The Ah Counter was Ryan, who had taken up a role play for the first time. Despite being a first-timer, Ryan did a great job and had delivered a nice report. Claire Kiew was today's timer and she carried a great responsibility throughout the meeting as well.

The Gaveliers receive mutual support and positive learning environment, which in turn faster self-confidence and personal growth. But on top of that, we make friends and assist each other throughout the meetings. There are some things that need to be fixed but we still have the opportunity to improve together in the future.

So, do join us for our next meeting which would be held on 22nd June 2013 at SMK Kampung Nangka from 2:00 to 4:15 pm. Until our next meeting, bye-bye!

FUN-FILLED TIME WITH GAVELIERS

Once again our educational meeting was a success! Our ever lovely Phoebe as Toastmaster of the Evening, lead the Gaveliers into fun-filled sessions. We all enjoyed the Humour session, Li Xuan never fails to make us laugh and reminds me to take a break from hectic weekdays in school. Jokes told from life experiences are always enlightening. Love to hear more next meeting!

All the speakers prepared and presented well. It's surprising how we can know more about an individual when we hear them speak. Nathan, today even volunteered in Table Topics Session! (We thought that's not quite possible as he was really shy). Great job Nathan as well as all the role players and speakers!

Amir, a soft-spoken and humorous guy, handled the Table Topics Session with interesting topics. One of the topics was

'Beauty or Intelligence, which one will you choose?'

Gaveliers shared their point of view. Choosing intelligence is wise because we can always go for plastic surgery was an interesting point. I have never really thought of going for plastic surgery until then. For guys, looking for a beautiful partner and turn them into an intelligent person is a better choice. That it something new.

For ladies, both are equally important and to achieve that, being intelligent enable us to get what we dream of. Dressing ourselves and applying makeup need some skills and knowing latest fashion. Mix matching them all together is another. Knowing how to get the latest hottest product or clothe too need some skills.

In conclusion, a lady who walks confidently and present herself well is intelligent.

What do you think?
